Brochure Mock Up

Black and white brochure mock ups, I drew and scribbled all over these for ideas to change on my digital version, i found this helped alot and was easier to draw on then change on the mac.
I stuck it together with masking tape and staples just for a mock up, but I will use binding screws on my final one for my portfolio.

Final Logo Process

I wanted the 11 to really stand out in a box of its own, so i came up with the concept, the 11 is like the towers, the square the footer, it ticked all the boxes i needed to tick, but it looked very dark and gloomy so i needed to add colour.

The colours i decided to add were the american flag colours, i choose a range of different shades to see which fit best.

The red i thought was very much like blood, striking and reminds you of horror, so i wanted to stay away from red, but still stick with the patriotic american feel, so i went with blue, the very opposite of red, a calming colour and went with a light shade to be against the dark gloomy past, and once again a fresh new start.

So i had my colour and needed to add type, i was going to go with just the marque above for my final, but i thought it was to vague to know what it was without any prior knowledge.
I went with all caps on top of each other and tried for a bold typeface, i thought the best one was Futura Bold, so i picked that. I thought i could also run this style right through my brochure using the same typeface.
This is my final logo, i made the left and right hand align and changed the colour from black which is very funereal, to a lighter shade.

First Digital Logo

These are my first digital logo ideas, taken from my drawings and thumbnails from my previous post. I tried to take everything away from the tree sapling logo that it became looking too much like a spoon and not much like a tree sapling anymore. I wanted to go for the tree idea after trying to rebrand the 9/11 as not a disator but more a new start for america, and they planted oaks trees at the site, so i wanted to take influence from this, if you look at the logos to the side i did a oak leaf logo but thought it was too complicated and was a awkward shape on the eye.
My final tree logo. Once again the logo ended up like a spoon, and i had trouble with the typography, i couldnt get the characters to sit nice with "the" and "11" as i couldnt leave them on a line on there own, but couldnt get the type alligned nicely with only memorial at the bottom, so i thought i would try and do more with the type.

Type Logo

I dropped the tree idea, and started to think more on the characters in a typographic way, and how i could build them up into more of a architectural way so it represented the towers being there, from my mind map i used the footprints of the towers as a way forward and tried to incorporate squares for the footprints into my design, as well as the type stacked up.
Here is my initial idea:
I prefered the all caps and stacked upon each other, but the type wasn't justified in a block and instead it is alligned right, i got rid of the problem of having "the" and just renamed it to National September 11 Memorial, and also the problem of "11" by having in another separate box.

Ideas and process

These are my initial ideas and mock ups and thought process through the logo.
I decided against my logo as it looked too much like a spoon rather then a shoot of a oak tree.
